Microsoft provides three platforms for developing mobile applications they are Pocket PC, SMART PHONE (Windows Mobile platform) and windows CE.


Windows Mobile platform is built on top of Windows CE. (Windows CE is used on consumer electronic devices.)

PocketPC, Pocket PC phone Edition and Smartphone will come under Windows Mobile powered devices i.e.. these platforms can be used on Mobile Phones. If we are going to develop applications only for mobile phones then we need to develop two applications one is for PocketPC Phone Edition and Smartphone.

What is the difference between PocketPC and PocketPC phone edition?
PocketPC is with out phone and pocket pc phone edition is with phone.


There are different methods for delivery of applications to handset. They are

1) Users to go to website and asking to download them file based on their handset make and model.( we can send link to user through sms).

2) Installing applications from desktop PC by connecting the device to PC.
